Q: Where are you located?
A: We’re located in the SoMa neighborhood, 3 blocks south of Union Square. Our address is 854 Folsom Street, which in the middle of the block between 4th Street and 5th Street.
Q: How do I get there on public transportation?
A: We're just 3 blocks south of the Powell Street BART/Muni station. To get here from there, exit the station @ 4th and Market and walk south on 4th Street, past Mission and Howard, until you get to Folsom. Turn left on Folsom and we're halfway down the block on the left. We’re also within close walking distance of stops on the 12, 27, 8 and 14 MUNI bus lines.
Q: How do I get there from the Bay Bridge?
A: From I-80 West, take Exit 2A on the Left toward 5th Street. Turn Right at 5th Street, then turn Right onto Folsom. We’re about halfway down the block on the left.
Q: Do you have Parking?
A: We do not have a private parking lot. There's 1-hour metered parking on Folsom right outside for $3 for an hour and there are 2-hour meters on Folsom one block west, between 5th and 6th. Two blocks south on Brannan, you can sometimes find un-metered street parking. There is a flat-rate parking lot at 5th and Folsom and a parking garage at 5th and Mission. You may also park at the Whole Foods on 4th Street - it’s just south of the intersection at 4th and Folsom on the left and they’ll validate your parking for up to 2 hours if you buy at least $5 in groceries.
Q: Do you accept walk-ins?
A: Occasionally we are able to accommodate walk-ins. Most of the time, though, we are very busy, and an appointment is required to guarantee our availability. Our Barbershop is the busiest, so for weekend barbering appointments, we recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance. For weekday appointments in the Barbershop, we recommend booking at least 3-4 days in advance. If you’re looking for any appointment in the Salon, Spa or Barbershop after 5pm on a weekday, or any time on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, we highly recommend booking at least 3-4 days in advance.
Q: What's the difference between a Stylist and a Barber?
A: The short answer: Training, licensing, pricing, and the type of haircut you want. The long answer:
If you normally visit a barbershop every 1-3 weeks for a trim or a straight razor line-up, you’ll want to visit a Barber. A Barber will suit you better than a stylist if you like your haircut high and tight, dig a clipper cut, or want a classic men's style (think Mad Men!). Our Barbers also perform Hot Towel Shaves, Head Shaves and Beard & Mustache Trims, whereas Stylists do not. Our talented barbers have a range of experience, from Apprentice to Master Barber, and their prices reflect their years of experience.
If your hair is a bit longer, you’re looking for a haircut with more of an artistic edge, or you prefer to wait 4-6 weeks between haircuts, you’ll want to visit a Stylist. All of our Stylists have an artisan’s eye, and will be happy to help you craft the perfect look. Stylists also perform Gray Blending and Hair Color services, whereas Barbers generally do not. Every Barber Lounge Stylist Haircut includes a Pampering Stress-Relieving Scalp Treatment, shampoo and blow dry. Our talented team of Stylists have a range of experience from Next Generation stylists to Master Stylists and their prices reflect their years of experience and training.
Q: How long does a Cut and Color appointment take?
A: This depends on the Stylist and the length of your hair/the look you’re after, but in general, a cut and color takes a minimum of 2.5 hours with process time. A color service alone usually takes at least 2 hours and up to 3 hours.
Q: How long does a Brazilian Blowout take?
A: It depends on the length and texture of your hair, but on average, the Brazilian Blowout takes about 2 hours.
Q: Can you get a Hot Towel Shave if you want to keep some of your facial hair?
A: Yes. The Barbers can shave your neck and the parts of your face you'd like to be shaved and clean up your beard and/or mustache.
Q: Why do many of your prices have a + sign next to them?
A: Our prices may vary depending on the experience and training of the service provider, the length and texture of your hair and the amount of product and/or color required to create your desired effect. If you’d like an exact quote prior to booking, please feel free to book a complimentary consultation prior to scheduling your appointment.
Q: Why is there such a wide range of prices for your haircuts?
A: The prices for our haircuts depend on the years of experience and advanced skill levels of our Barbers and Stylists. A haircut with a Barber who has only been working here for a few years may cost $30, whereas a haircut with the Owner, who has been doing hair for over 20 years, has worked with celebrities and models, and has attended a wide range of advanced cutting and coloring classes, costs $100+. We offer a full range of price options between those two extremes to accommodate every personality type and budget. Let us know what you’re looking for and what’s within your budget and we’ll help you find the perfect option for you.
Q: Do you have special prices for kids?
A: No. Prices for children’s haircuts are the same as our regular prices. Please also note that although we love kids, our space is not at all child-proofed, and in the interest of maintaining a relaxing atmosphere, we recommend leaving your children at home when visiting us.
Q: Why is there a Healthy SF surcharge on my Service price?
A: We charge 2% on services to help us cover the cost of Health and Dental insurance for our staff. A healthy staff is a happy staff!
Q: Do you have tanning beds?
A: No. We offer sunless tanning only, with Mystic Tan and Spray Tanning available.
Q: What's the difference between Mystic Tan and Spray Tan?
A: For the Mystic Tan, you get into a booth and push a button. There are 3 levels of tan: Light, Medium and Dark. It's an all-natural, sugar-based solution. For the Spray Tan, an Esthetician airbrushes you, so the tan is completely customized. It's a little more even, and it lasts a little longer than the mystic tan. It's also made of an all-natural, sugar-based solution.
Q: What's the Spray Tan with Exfoliation?
A: When you book your Spray Tan with Exfoliation, your Esthetician gives you a full-body sugar scrub prior to the tan. This smoothes out rough areas and helps the tan to absorb more evenly and last longer.
Q: How long will my tan last?
A: It depends...the less you get wet (this includes any sort of bathing or sweating), the less you exfoliate, and the more you moisturize, the longer your tan will last. The mystic tan will last about 8 days. The spray tan can last up to 2 weeks.
Best Practices for Tanning:
Don't wear any oil or lotion on your skin.
If you can help it, don't wear makeup (we can remove it here if needed).
Wear dark undergarments and clothing, since some of the bronzer may rub off on the fabric.
Don't shower or work out for at least 5 hours after your session. If you can help it, not showering or working out until the following day will help your tan to set even better.
